The Hazeltine family was of importance in England, whence it originated, for their coat-of-arms is recorded in the College of Arms or Heraldry. The name also appears as Haseltine, Hazelton and Hazelden.

The pioneer ancestor of the family, he, accompanied by his brother, Robert, left Yorkshire, England, with a colony of sixty families, under the leadership of their pastor, Rev. Ezekiel Rogers, and landed at Salem, province of Massachusetts Bay, in 1637, settling in the county of Essex, on the Merrimack river. Later he was one of the three settlers of that part of Rowley, Massachusetts, afterwards incorporated as Bradford. He resided for a time in Haverhill, New Hampshire, but returned to Bradford about 1660. He married and they had four children. He died and his will was probated March 31, 1691. [GPHAV, 927]

He landed at Salem, Massachusetts Bay Colony, in 1637, from Yorkshire, England. He was one of the three first settlers of Rowley, Essex county, Massachusetts, afterward incorporated as Bradford. He donated to the church of the town an acre of land "for a meeting house." He lived for a time in Haverhill across the Merrimac river in New Hampshire, but returned to Bradford in 1660.
He married, but whether before or after his settlement in Massachusetts is uncertain, the date of his marriage and birth not being known. He had three sons and one daughter. [GPHAV, 735]
