General Notes: Husband - Arnold Bishop Shaw


He was reared in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, and received a liberal education in the common schools and the academy in Clearfield. He then entered his father's store as clerk, later engaging in lumbering. In 1853 he removed to Shawville, where he opened a lumber and general merchandise business, which he conducted till 1875, in that year returning to Clearfield. In 1882, he was elected vice-president of the County National Bank of Clearfield. In Clearfield and Cambria counties he owned about one thousand acres of coal lands.
In politics Mr. Shaw was a Democrat; in religious faith he was a member of the M. E. Church.
