General Notes: Husband - Joseph Laughlin Swearingen
During the Civil War he served in the Union army, as a member of Company H, One Hundred and Fortieth Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and was for the most part with the Army of the Potomac until the close of the war. The only injury he received was at Chancellorsville, when the explosion of a caisson caused deafness and vertigo. Beginning in 1873 he was living at Milford, Nebraska. He was a member of the state legislature, and a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, of the Free and Accepted Masons, and of the Grand Army of the Republic.
