He was cashier of the First National Bank, and burgess of Scottdale, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Meadville Business College. He was a soldier in the Spanish-American war, a member of Tenth Pennsylvania Regiment, and served the entire campaign in the Philippine Islands.
