General Notes: Husband - Nathaniel King
He was born in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, and came to Tyrone township, Fayette County, at nine years of age, where he received a good farm training and a practical common-school education. He was engaged in farming up to 1862, when he enlisted in Company B, (sharpshooters) Seventy-seventh Pennsylvania Volunteers. He was wounded in his left hand at the battle of Liberty Gap, fought under Sherman in Georgia, marched with Stanley after Hood, and was honorably discharged in June, 1865. After the war Mr. King engaged in farming on shares until 1881, when he purchased his own farm, one mile south of Scottdale, containing 117 acres of well-improved, good farming land. It was bounded by three public roads, and underlaid with the Connellsville vein of coking coal. He was a democrat, was tax collector, and served twelve years or more as a school director. He was a member of the United Brethren church.
