General Notes: Husband - Herman A. King
He grew to manhood in Burrell township, Armstrong County, PA, and attended the common schools and the Freeport (PA) Academy. He began his mercantile career when a young man of twenty, starting in business on his own account at Brick Church in 1872. He carried on his general store there for many years without interruption, and also established another general store at Cochran Mills, in the same township, where he had, besides, a flouring mill. His son, Owen J., was in partnership with him, under the firm name of H. A. King & Son, and they did an extensive business, their patrons at both places coming from a wide radius. There were few general merchants in the county who had an equally large custom. On Aug. 4, 1890, he was appointed postmaster at Brick Church, and continued to fill that office for more than two decades.
