General Notes: Husband - Michael Merkle
He was reared in his native country, educated and followed the occupation of conducting a vineyard. In 1852 he emigrated to America, residing at Economy, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, until August, 1854, when he moved to Limestone township, Warren County, Pennsylvania, purchased a piece of woodland, which he cleared and in due course of time cultivated and improved. In 1864 he entered the employ of the Economy Oil company, but retained his residence on the farm. He was an active and valued member of the Lutheran church, and a staunch adherent of Democratic principles, but could never be prevailed upon to accept public office.
