He obtained his educational training in the public schools of his native place, and later embarked in the oil business. His political affiliations were with the Democratic party, and his public service was in the capacity of deputy sheriff of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, which position he filled most creditably, and has the confidence and esteem of his fellow-citizens. In church relations he accords with the doctrines of the Lutheran church.
