Upon the home farm, he early became familiar with agricultural pursuits, and came to be numbered among the most successful and skillful farmers of Decatur township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, where he owned the old family homestead comprised of 150 acres.
His sisters Henrietta and Martha resided with him.
