General Notes: Husband - Ulrich Zug
With his own and other Swiss families, he immigrated to Pennsylvania from the Palatinate of the Lower Rhine, on the invitation of Queen Anne, renewed by George I, and encouraged by William Penn by the pledge of freedom of conscience. His ancestors left Switzerland at an early day for the Palatinate, on account of religious persecutions. He landed at Philadelphia September 27, 1727, and immediately settled in the northwest part of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in the township of Warwick, later called Penn. There he located, by warrant from the proprietary government, nearly 400 acres of land, where he and a number of his descendants lived and died.
The family arrived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 27, 1727, on the ship "James Goodwill". He appears to have been an indentured servant after he landed probably to pay for his voyage. The period was about 15 years, since in 1742 he is noted as settling in Chester County, Pennsylvania, and joining the Brethren Church there. However, in 1743 he removed to Warwick Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and purchased 343 acres of land there.
He died intestate in early 1748, and the inventory was filed on 11 May 1748 by his wife Barbara Zouck (Zug), Administratrix. It lists livestock, farm equipment, and furniture valued at 126 Pounds, appraised by Ulrich Burkhart and Peter Zouk (Zug).
