General Notes: Husband - John Calvin Scott

He attended the Pleasant Hill and the Bouder Schools, in Mud­dy Creek Township, Butler County, PA, after which he worked until his marriage, on different farms through the county. After his marriage, he rented land in Muddy Creek Township for two years and then bought a farm in Franklin Township, on which he lived for ten years, then sold out and bought 130 acres in Venango Town­ship, fifty acres of which he subsequently sold to Mary Kennedy, to whom he later sold thirty more. When Mary Kennedy died it was found that she had willed the eighty acres to Mrs. Mary E. Scott, wife of John Calvin Scott. Of land that he owned, Mr. Scott also sold fifty acres to John M. Eakins, of Eau Claire. After tak­ing possession of this farm Mr. Scott found all the buildings needing a large amount of repair and he began to make improvements. He had sixty acres under the plow, twenty acres devoted to pasturage, an excel­lent orchard and two veins of coal were discovered. A test well indicated the presence of gas.
