He was a native of Maryland, emigrated to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, removed to Allegheny County, and subsequently to Brownsville, in about 1794, where he was engaged in the mercantile business until his death.

He emigrated from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, at an early day into Allegheny County, and there carried on farming on Turtle Creek, near "Braddock's Field," eleven miles east of Pittsburgh, for several years. He then moved to Brownsville, Fayette County, where he entered into merchandising, which he conducted until his death. He was buried in the old Episcopalian cemetery.

He was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, moved to Allegheny County at an early date, and engaged in farming. He located on Turtle creek near "Braddock's Field," eleven miles east of Pittsburgh. He remained there until 1793, when he came to Brownsville, Fayette County, where he engaged in the mercantile business until his death.
