He was graduated at the head of his class from the Edinburgh State Normal School, and held a similar position when he was graduated from the Allegheny College, and was the youngest man ever graduated from the State Normal. While at college he held the rank of major in the college military organization. He then became a student at the University of Pennsylvania, from which he was graduated in the class of 1902 with the degree of Doctor of Medicine. For a time he taught in the Polytechnic, then was engaged in hospital practice in New York City for one year, and finally established himself in the practice of his profession in Erie, Pennsylvania.
