He lived near Clarks-ville, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, where he was the owner of a general store and a large farm. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church; he died at the age of seventy-five years.

He was a prominent citizen of Mercer County, Pennsylvania, who represented his district in the State Legislature for two terms.
