General Notes: Husband - [Ancestor] Keck

The Keck family of Germany was founded by Capt. Casper Keck, who was of German-French extraction and served for many years in the German army. [BHCWC, 476]

The Kecks were well known and prominent in Germany, and their ancestry can be traced back for many generations to the founder of the family in Wurtemburg. This founder was one Jacob Keck, partially Bohemian and partially German in extraction, and who served for many years in the Germany army. He was born September 16, 1575, and according to the old records was a man of the greatest bravery. We find that on August 9, 1608, Kaiser Rudolph conferred a coat-of-arms upon Jacob Keck for courage displayed by him as a lieutenant-colonel in the campaign at Pragg, Bohemia. Jacob Keck's family consisted of four children, one of whom, named Christopher, was born in 1615. This Christopher Keck located for a time at Leiduering, Germany, which was situated in the northeast part of the Black Forest. He had a son Christopher and a grandson Martin, born respectively in 1655 and 1698. Martin Keck was the father of three children and once more it was a Christopher who carried on the line of descent.
