He was born in Clearfield County, PA, and was brought to Venango County by his parents in 1841, and located in Oakland, on a farm one and three-fourth miles northwest of Dempseytown. He engaged in farming for two years after his marriage, when he removed to Dempseytown, and followed blacksmithing until 1875, when he then moved to a farm one-half mile west of Dempseytown.
