General Notes: Husband - Wilson McDowell Piper

Indiana Co, PA

Near his residence, at the confluence of Scrubgrass run and Black-leg creek, was a bluff skirted with cedar and crowned with pitch pine, in striking contrast to the oak, chestnut and other hard woods, for long distances on every side. Looking up the creek towards it, it was a fine natural scene.

He was a farmer by occupation and for fifteen years was in charge of a State project at Poke, Pennsylvania. He fought for the Union in the Civil War, achieving a splendid military record.

He was born in Conemaugh township, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, August 15, 1845, and there grew to manhood. He made an exhaustive study of agrictulture, and in 1897 he was appointed as superintendent of the State Farm at Polk, Pennsylvania, an office in which he rendered service twelve years. He afterward was appointed superintendent of County Home in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, and was superintendent and manager of the farm there. Mr. Piper was a Republican in politics, and he and his wife were members of the Presbyterian church.

General Notes: Wife - Maria J. Kaney

She was between two and three years old when she emigrated to America.
