General Notes: Husband - John Jacob Lawrence
He was superintendent of the western portion of the Philadelphia & Erie Railroad for years, and afterward of the Allegheny Valley Railroad; he was colonel of one of the Pennsylvania regiments in the army.
He began professional life as superintendent of the Huntingdon and Broad Top Railroad, and on the call of President Lincoln for trooops in 1862, resigned; enlisted a company of one hundred men by whom he was elected captain, and went into the War of the Rebellion, and on the organization of the 125th regiment of Pennsylvania, was elected major; was wounded at the second Bull Run battle and at Chancellorsville. After leaving the army Major Lawrence was appointed a superintendent on the Philadelphia and Erie Railway, afterwards became general superintendent of the Pittsburgh and Erie R. R., and finally general superintendent of the Allegheny Valley R. R., from which he resigned to enter into commercial business in Pittsburgh. He resided in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania.
