He attended the Greensburg Business College at Greensburg, Pennsylvania, there laying a good practical foundation for a successful business career. He was graduated from this college when he was twenty-two years of age, at which time he entered the general store of the Alexander Supply Company at Goff, Pennsylvania, in the capacity of clerk. He was promoted the next year to the position of bookkeeper for this firm, which position he held until the autumn of 1900, at which time he accepted the position of manager of the large general store of John P. Donohoe & Co., Ltd.
