He moved from Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, to Fayette County.
He was commissioned captain in the Tenth Regiment of Infantry, U. S. A., by President John Adams, April 17, 1799. He received the degree of Master Mason, March 20, 1799, in Lodge No. 55, at Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.
