Wilson 66th Wedding Anniversary by One Who Was There
Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Wilson celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary at their home one and one-half miles south east of town, Thursday, May 17, 1923.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilson celebrated this occasion by inviting in a number of old friends and neighbors to spend the afternoon. About 84 friends responded to invitations. Owing to the inclement weather, many invited guests were unable to attend.
Refreshments of ice cream and cake were served to all guests. The cakes were baked by their daughters and grand-daughters and neighbors.
Mr. and Mrs. Wilson were married in Wayne Co., Ill., May 17, 1857. They moved to Kansas in 1876 and settled on the homestead where they now reside.
Mr. Wilson served in the Civil War from 1862 to 1865 and was one of the boys who marched with Sherman to the sea.
This couple was among the pioneers of Kansas and has watched the development of this country for the last 46 years, and has seen their family grow to manhood and womanhood. They have four children living.
Their oldest son, John Wilson, died in December, 1915 and one daughter died in infancy. Their oldest daughter, Mrs. Rose Hill, resides with them. Their second daughter, Mrs. J. O. Hill, lives at Naponee, Nebraska. The third daughter, Mrs. J. P. Fiske, lives in Logan and son, R. L. Wilson, lives in California.
They have 25 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. This old couple has enjoyed good health up until about nine years ago. Uncle Jim had the misfortune of losing his sight and Aunt Ann the sight of one eye, one year ago.
The 66th wedding anniversary is a rare occasion indeed. The guests left wishing Mr. and Mrs. Wilson many more happy anniversaries together.
