He was born and reared on the home place in Buffalo township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. He learned the trade of bricklayer and mason, which he followed most of his life. Politically he voted with the Democratic party, and in religion he was a zealous member of the Presbyterian Church at East Buffalo.
He died at the age of sixty-two years.
