General Notes: Husband - Andrew J. Jones

He was born in County Donegal, Ireland, and received a fine English education. Early in life he came to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where he learned merchandising with John Cameron. Subsequently, in partnership with his brother Samuel T., he entered into the mercantile business, which they successfully carried on for many years. Mr. Jones became quite prominent in political affairs, and in 1848, upon the election of Gen. Zachary Taylor to the Presidency, was appointed postmaster at Harrisburg, a position he acceptably filled four years.
