General Notes: Husband - Nicholas C. Lahr

His early education was such as the common schools afforded, and he later attended the Lewisburg Academy at intervals for two years. At the age of eighteen he began learning the carpenter's trade under the direction of Jack McLaughlin, of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, but never completed his apprenticeship. As a young man, however, he became thoroughly familiar with all departments of farm work, and throughout life principally followed that occupation, meeting with a fair degree of success.
For three years after his marriage he operated a rented farm in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, and for twenty-three years lived on the George Ard farm, in White Deer township, Union County. He then removed to a farm, which he had previously stocked, and had one of the most desirable places in East Buffalo township. It comprised 110 acres of excellent farming land, supplied with good buildings and all the accessories found upon a model farm of the nineteenth century. In connection with general farming, he engaged in the threshing business for fifteen years, doing considerable work along that line in his neighborhood.
