General Notes: Husband - John Edward Johnston


He obtained a common school education, leaving school at the age of sixteen to enter the more practical school of life. He entered the service of the H. C. Frick Coal Company, with whom he remained for three years. He then entered the employ of Samuel Dice, of Ligonier, Pennsylvania, and learned the barber's trade, and after a year thus occupied started in business for himself at Mammoth, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Politically he was a Republican, and on May 24, 1900, he was appointed postmaster of Mammoth.
