General Notes: Husband - James Johnston
He was born in Center County, Pennsylvania, and located in Erie County before his marriage. He moved to the Venango County region during the early part of the excitement over the oil discoveries, and engaged in the production of oil in the vicinity, up Oil creek and along the Allegheny River. He was also one of the first men to undertake the refining of oil, and met with substantial success in his efforts, remaining in Oil City until his death, at the age of eighty-three years.
General Notes: Wife - Jane Kennedy
She was a native of the North of Ireland, of Scotch ancestry, and came to America in childhood. She survived him one year, reaching the same age, eighty-three years.
