He attended the district schools up to the age of fourteen years, when he came to Franklin, PA, and found employment at restaurant work. Some time later he and his cousin Harry Earl Riddle opened a restaurant on Liberty Street, on the site where the Orpheum Theatre was later located. After conducting it for a time they purchased a restaurant from Mr. Elliott, on Thirteenth Street, which they also continued, eventually opening an establishment in which they were interested with Frank L. Riddle, at No. 1273 Liberty street, under the firm name of Riddle Brothers. He was an Odd Fellow in fraternal affiliation, and a Presbyterian in religious connection. [CAB, 679]
