General Notes: Husband - William K. Kuhns

He was reared in his native township, where he attended the local school, and later engaged in farming, having been taught the rudiments of that calling in boyhood. In 1862 he bought the homestead farm, which comprised ninety acres of fine land for agricultural purposes. This property was located in the forks of the two rivers, the Allegheny and Kiskiminetas. His entire life was spent in Gilpin township, and at the end of his life he was the oldest living citizen who was born there.
Politically he was a Republican. He belonged to Hebron Lutheran Church at Leechburg, which he served as deacon and elder.
In August, 1864, Mr. Kuhns responded to the call of his country, enlisting in Company K, 6th Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery, and served until the close of the conflict, when he was honorably discharged at Fort Ethan Allen.
He was a member of Capt. J. A. Hunter Post, No. 123, G. A. R., of Leechburg.
