Many families of the name Johnson settled in Vermont before the revolution\emdash some of English, some of Irish birth.

He was a farmer of Vermont, where he married, had issue and resided until the year 1783, when he moved with his family to the vicinity of Ogdensburg, New York. He there engaged in lumbering and seems to have prospered. During the Indian wars of his day and during the revolution he served with Vermont troops in defense of their homes.
