General Notes: Husband - George D. Humphreys

Michael Humphreys, founder of the American branch of this family, came in 1643 from Lyme, England, and settled at Simsbury, Connecticut. George Humphreys, grandfather of George D. Humphreys, bore an honorable part in the war for independence. In 1775 he was colonel of the Seventeenth Regiment, Connecticut Militia, and was among those who rallied for the defense of Concord.

He moved from Canton, Connecticut, to St. Louis, Missouri, and established the Mississippi Glass Company, of which he was president at the time of his death.
