General Notes: Husband - Samuel E. Porter

He was raised on a farm in Upper Tyrone township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania, and was educated in the common schools of that district, with the exception of two or three winters that he attended a common school in South Huntingdon township, Westmoreland County. At the age of nineteen years he engaged as a clerk with his brother, Moses E., a druggist of Dawson. Learning the business he opened a drug store at Dawson with Dr. George (George being a silent partner). In the spring of 1885 he closed his business at Dawson, removed to Vanderbilt and established a drug store. About 1889 he erected a good store building, which was among the finest drug rooms in the county.
He was a member of Boone Castle, No. 125, Knights of the Mystic Chain, and Vanderbilt Counsel, No. 104, J. O. of U. A. M.
