General Notes: Husband - John V. Sloan
The first eleven years of his life were passed in his native state, and on coming to Pennsylvania located in Limestone, Clarion County, where he grew to manhood. He prepared for the legal profession at Harvard College, but beginning in 1888 became interested in the J. W. James Medicine Company, in East Brady. The company, of which he became secretary and treasurer, began business on a small scale in 1869, but as the demand for their medicine increased, they were obliged to enlarge their facilities. Six years later a stock company was incorporated with a capital of $50,000, and Dr. J. W. James was elected president, and John V. Sloan secretary and treasurer. Four traveling salesmen were kept on the road, selling their goods in every state of the Union, and in the laboratory and printing room employment was furnished to thirty hands. The company was one of the most important concerns of the kind in that section of Pennsylvania.
He was a Republican in politics, was a member of the city council of East Brady, and belonged to the Presbyterian Church.
