General Notes: Husband - Stephen P. Stone

He attended the public schools of Beaver, Pennsylvania, and the Beaver Academy. When sixteen years old he went to work on a farm and steam sawmill owned by his father in Marion township, Beaver County, where he was employed until the panic of 1873 swept away everything that his father owned, and left the family without means of support. His father being disabled by advanced age and sickness, Stephen worked as a laborer to support the family. When the new courthouse was built, he worked at the excavation as a day laborer. In the summer and fall of 1876 he was employed on the engineer corps that surveyed and laid out the Pittsburg & Lake Erie Railroad from Pittsburgh to Youngstown, Ohio. In 1877 he was appointed deputy prothonotary, and in 1879 he was elected to the office of prothonotary, being re-elected in 1882. After the close of his second term he accepted the position of assistant cashier of the Beaver Deposit Bank.

He was made assistant cashier of the Beaver Deposit Bank in about 1885. He was subsequently promoted to be cashier. He was one of the stockholders, and was an organizer, of the Bridgewater Gas Company of which he became treasurer; he was treasurer of the Beaver Valley Traction Company, of which he was one of the organizers, and was financially interested in the People's Electric Street Railroad Company.
Politically, Mr. Stone was a Republican and served as a delegate to the state convention, and on the county committee. He was a member of the Odd Fellows' lodge, of which he was a past grand; of the Masonic order, from F. & A. M. to K. T.; of the Junior Order United American Mechanics; and of the Elks. In 1887, he built a residence opposite the depot, graded the lawn and set out shrubbery and fruit, making it one of the most desirable homes in the borough. It was well located and commanded a beautiful view of the villages and mountains along the Beaver and Ohio rivers.
