General Notes: Husband - David M. Atwell

He received a common school education, and was reared on the farm. He learned the carpenter's trade, which he followed as an occupation for twenty-five years, a portion of the time in the various oil fields of Pennsylvania, where he also operated as a producer to some extent. He was a resident of Marion township after 1874, where he owned and occupied what was known as the James Black homestead, and devoted his attention to farming. He was one of the best known and most highly respected citizens of the community, and had an exten-sive acquaintance throughout the oil region. Politically, he was a Democrat, and in religion, an adherent of the United Presbyterian church.

He was born in Venango County, Pennsylvania, and in early life was a farmer. Later he engaged in general contracting in the oil fields of Oil City and Parkers Landing and Clarion County, Pennsylvania. [HBC 1927, 958]
