He was born in Ireland, and was a very young child when he came to America with his parents. He was educated and grew to maturity in Butler County, Pennsylvania, and followed the occupa-tion of farming. After his marriage he settled on a farm in Center township, where both he and his wife spent the remainder of their lives. Both were members of the Presbyterian Church.
