He was born on his father's farm, and received his education in the common schools. He was reared to agricultural pursuits, and when little more than thirty years of age began farming for himself. He prospered and became the owner of a farm of forty-five acres of excellent land, with good and extensive buildings and a number of horses and cattle of the best breeds.
