General Notes: Husband - William Atkinson

He came to America from England as a young man and was an early settler of Union Township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. He raised and dealt extensively in cattle and sheep, and also operated a market at the corner of Jefferson and Washington streets in New Castle for years. He gave each of his sons a farm.

For a number of years he followed the butchering business at New Castle. Politically he was a member of the Republican party, and he was sufficiently interested in public affairs to become at one time a candidate for the office of county commissioner.
