General Notes: Husband - Samuel Irwin


In 1798, he was residing in Buffalo valley, White Deer township, Northumberland (later Union) county, PA, about three miles northwest of Lewisburg. In May, 1802, the family migrated to Sugar Creek (later Cherry Tree) township, Venango county, where they made a settlement and reared a large family. The children received only the elementary instruction afforded by the lim­ited educational facilities of that time and place. [HVC 1890, 757]

He came to Cherrytree township, Venango County, PA, in May, 1802, and his first home was a 400-acre tract on the Wallaceville road. Aft­erward he bought the land of James Tuthill, where he resided until his death. He was the first postmaster in the township, the office, known as Cherrytree, being kept at his home. [CAB, 347]
