General Notes: Husband - Isaiah McElhoes
He was born and reared in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, receiving such educational advantages as the schools of his time afforded. Like his father he became a farmer and miller, and was thus engaged for some years, later becoming interested in the manufacture of wool, for which he established a mill on Pine run which was supposed to have been the first woolen mill in Indiana County. He was an enterprising business man, and his undertaking prospered.
He served as justice of the peace for eight years. He erected the woolen factory in 1864 on the foundation of the old grist mill.
