General Notes: Husband - Henry Bucher Swoope
He was educated in the schools of his native place and then studied law with the Hon. John Scott. He was admitted to the bar April 14, 1853. In 1854 established himself in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, where he rapidly attained a high position in his profession, with a lucrative practice. Being a leader in the Republican party he supported General Grant for the Presidency, by whom he was appointed District Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He was re-appointed for a full term in 1874, but died in February 16, 1874. He was a man of marked ability and genius, a poet, a bold and brilliant orator, and one of the brightest ornaments of the bar.
He was the founder and first editor of the "Raftsman's Journal," of Clearfield, Pennsylvania, and of the "Pittsburg Evening Telegraph."
