General Notes: Husband - Christopher Aspey

He was just fifteen years of age at the time of his father's death. He worked for his mother thereafter and soon became a railroad employee, remaining for thirty years and more with the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. During the majority of this time he was stationed at Port Royal, where he served in the capacity of track watchman. With the exception of six hundred dollars patrimony, the wealth that he possessed was entirely the result of his own effort. About the year 1890 he purchased the old Solomon Hough farm, consisting of seventy-five acres of very rich and fertile land, to which he added several tracts from time to time, until he was the owner of one hundred and forty-five acres, comprising some of the best farm land in the region. The property bordered upon Jacobs Creek, so that a great deal of it was bottom land, of a quality in which almost any kind of crop flourished greatly. Here he owned a fine brick residence and there were three other houses on the property as well. For some years he made a specialty of dairying, but later placed these operations in charge of others and lived in well-earned leisure.
The Aspey family were at one time members of the United Brethren church at Barren Run, where Mr. Aspey was born, but later attended the Baptist church at Jacobs Creek.
