In 1783 he emigrated to America with his parents, locating in Washing-ton County, Pennsylvania.

She was born near Chambersburg, PA, and walked across the mountains from Chambersburg with her parents, when but ten years of age, her mother and the baby alone being allowed the lux­ury of a horseback ride. In early life she joined the Chartiers Associate Reformed Church, of which Rev. Anderson was then pastor. Though met by heavy obstacles and bearing many burdens of care, she was uniformly cheerful and affectionate.
