General Notes: Husband - James Vanderlin

He attended a common school until he was eighteen years of age, and then learned the trade of plasterer and brick-mason, which he worked at twenty-five years-his last job of work being his own residence. In 1854 he moved into Venango county, PA, in the vicinity of Clintonville, where he remained two years, and worked at his trade. In 1856 he bought a farm and moved into Allegheny township, where he continued working at his trade until about 1872, when he plastered his own house, and after that worked his farm. In 1876 he was elected for the term of three years to the office of County Assessor. The office was urged upon him the second time, but he refused to be re-nominated because it conflicted too much with his other business. He was the father of eight children, six sons and two daughters.

He was reared on the homestead in Butler county, PA, and learned the trade of a plasterer and bricklayer, which he followed for twenty-six years. He settled on his own farm in 1857. Politically he was a Democrat, and was elected commissioner of Venango County in 1875. He also filled township offices. His wife was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. [HVC 1890, 1080]
