General Notes: Husband - Valentine Smith
He settled with his family in the southern part of Venango County, Pennsylvania, about 1840. He was a native of Germany, and had lived in York County for a number of years prior to his removal to Venango County. Between 1845 and 1850 he settled on the farm in Irwin Township where his grandson Millard F. Smith would later reside, which was then in the woods and which he developed from its primitive state. He gave the place to his son William, who sold it to a Mr. Hovis, and after being out of the family for fifteen or twenty years it was bought back by Samuel Smith, another son of Valentine. Valentine Smith died in Venango County in the latter eighteen-sixties, when past eighty years of age, at the home of his son Samuel, with whom he had spent his declining years. His wife preceded him to the grave. [CAB, 724]
