General Notes: Husband - John Hull
He and two of his brothers removed in youth [from New Jersey] to the vicinity of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and in 1798 or 1799 located on farms in what is now Hickory Township, Mercer County. All reared large families, and died on their respective homesteads in Hickory Township.
When he came to Mercer County his sole possessions consisted of an ax and a hoe, and he endured all of the trials and privations of pioneer days. For some time after he came to Hickory Township he kept "bachelor's hall." The pot in which he prepared his corn mush had a little piece broken out of the rim. On one occasion, when he returned home very hungry from the pursuit of game, he looked into his pot for his mush. Lifting off the lid, he found a rattlesnake coiled nicely upon the top of the mush which was expected to furnish his supper. A strange prejudice interfered against his eating that mush on that occasion.
He was a soldier in the War of 1812 at Erie.
The Hull family came to America from England and it was established at a very early day in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, by John Hull. He resided near Sharon.
