Of German descent, he was one of the pioneers of Derry township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. [HWC 1906 III, 248]

He was of Welsh-Scotch descent and one of the pioneers of Derry township. [HWC 1906 III, 136]

He and his wife were the parents of ten children, only one son and two daughters reaching mature age.
