General Notes: Husband - Richard Hughes
He was about thirteen years of age when he accompanied his parents to America, and in the schools of Decatur township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, he completed his education. He followed the occupations of farming and lumbering throughout his business career, and was also successfully engaged in the operation of a coal mine. At different times he also worked three other mines, which proved quite profitable. A man of sound judgment and good executive ability, he succeeded in accumulating a handsome competence, becoming the owner of over two hundred acres of valuable land, besides other real estate. He erected thirteen houses, which he either sold or rented, and this also proved a profitable investment.
He always gave his political support to the Democratic party, and for many years served as justice of the peace.
He was a member of the Episcopal church, while his wife was connected with the United Brethren church.
