He was reared on the home place and received his educational training in the public schools of that district. He turned his attention to agricultural pursuits at an early age, and was always successful in that occupation. In 1879 he purchased a farm of seventy-eight acres of Robert Miller, made many important and desirable improvements. In addition to general farming, he was quite successful as a raiser of fruits.
