Daryl J. Hovis, 60, of 962 Warren Road, Franklin, died at 11:20 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, in UPMC McKeesport.
Born Nov. 2, 1942, in Mineral Township, he was the son of Wayne G. and Alberta Vogan Hovis.
He was a 1961 graduate of Franklin High School.
Mr. Hovis had a lifelong dedication to all things automotive and this was realized for the last 15 years with his ownership of the business, D. J. Hovis Auto, in Franklin. He also worked for 40 years as a welder for Joy Manufacturing.
He attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Franklin.
Mr. Hovis enjoyed cars and working on cars, hunting, NASCAR, his motor home and his family.
He was married June 21, 1963, to Sandy Witherow, who survives.
Also surviving are three children, Douglas Hovis at home, Jann Marie Latshaw and her husband, Denny, and Jodi Rene Coon and her husband, Andy, all of Franklin; and four grandchildren, Luke Coon, Levi Coon, Lacy Coon and Shelby Latshaw, all of Franklin.
He also is survived by a sister and her husband, Gayle and Darrell Smith of Oil City; his mother-in-law, Dolly Witherow of Franklin; a brother-in-law, Rick Witherow and his wife, Tammy, of Franklin; and seven nieces and nephews, Bryan Smith, Eric Smith and Stacia Fennick, all of Oil City, Scott Witherow of Fayetteville, N.C., Nathan and Sarah Witherow of Franklin and Mindy Altman of Savannah, Ga.
Mr. Hovis was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Glenmore Wayne Hovis; and his father-in-law, the Rev. Howard Witherow.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Robert W. Gardinier Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with the Rev. Greg Beeman, pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Franklin, officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. Larry Bell of the Messiah Baptist Church.
Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery.
