He was a prominent scholar, and for a part of his life a bank-officer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

He removed to the neighborhood of Columbia, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and married. He was occupied in teaching for some years in Columbia, and afterwards as a book-keeper in the first bank in that place.
